Why upgrade from Windows XP or Vista?
Upgrading your PC to Windows 7
A Custom (clean) Installation gives you the option to either completely replace your current operating system or install Windows on a specific drive or partition that you select. You can also perform a Custom Installation if your computer does not have an operating system, or if you want to set up a multiboot system on your computer.
Please note: To upgrade your PC running Windows XP or Windows Vista to an N or KN edition of Windows 7, you will need to select the Custom option during Windows 7 installation. A custom (or clean) installation doesn't preserve your programs, files, or settings so on a separate device, you will need to back up all of the files and programs you want to access later on.
An In-Place Upgrade keeps your files, settings and programs in tact from your current version of Windows.
